I was listening to Michael Lewis, the famous author of “The Big Short” and “Moneyball” being interviewed by Tim Ferriss on The Tim Ferriss Show and his method of how he decides if a potentially worthwhile project should proceed really struck me. He asks himself the simple question “would I be sad if this story didn’t get told?”. I borrowed his question and applied it to this journal project.
And the answer is “Yes”, I would be sad if this journal never got made.
I spent days looking for a journal that encompassed the techniques Josh Waitzkin uses with his hedge fund managers to focus on what’s most important, or the method Reid Hoffman uses to solve complex problems, as well as the to-do list tricks Tim Ferriss uses to get the most out of his days.
It soon became apparent that no such journal existed. That’s when I knew I had to make it myself.
Even though I have no experience in journal or product design, I knew who the experts were and what the journal ought to look like. I am as much creating this for me as anyone else. It doesn’t matter I only lose money on this project, I know it has to be done.
