Journaling and fitness?

When I see these two activities grouped together like this at first glance it looks like they shouldn’t be together, however after some thought they actually have many common truths.

The following statements are true for journaling and fitness:

  • There are no quick gains, real change or results take time
  • Results compound over time
  • Practice can be daily, weekly or designed to fit around a busy schedule
  • Are accessible to all
  • Can be practiced with no structure or guidance, however practicing with these increases effectiveness
  • Breakthroughs occur when a solid foundation is built
  • Process is valued over results

While both these activities have many similarities there is much more to be learned from each other, for instance I workout all the time and occasionally I miss workouts or many a series of them but that doesn’t mean I stop working out. With journals many people give up as soon as they miss a day or so.
