In community pharmacy, we are always in awe of the 90 something year old patients, that are independent, witty and most importantly on little or no medication. We always lament how great they are doing and hope we will be in similar positions to them.
When someone makes it to an age like my patients without being on any medication what does that mean?
It means that their bodies are performing optimally, that their blood pressure, blood glucose and cholesterol are all in in healthy ranges. So for them, health is performance.
I believe that this applies to any example over a long enough time period.
I believe that health and performance are directly correlated to each other , so that health equals performance.
So was hadn’t I made that connection before?
I think that all of us, myself included don’t view things over a long enough time horizon. The world at the moment is predominantly focused on immediate performance and results above all else.
This is blindingly obvious when you think of the damage we are doing to our planet where our short term desires override the long term health of our planet.
Once I identified the sort term lens through which I approached my performance I consciously changed it to one of health and sustainability. My short term performance may suffer slightly but over time I will have maximum performance.
