I peek at my messages so I don’t get burned
My coach always tells me that bad feedback is ten times more valuable than good feedback from users of my journal.
He often said if we could pay testers to give us the negative instead of positive feedback we would be laughing as we would save so much time.
We even briefly discussed giving testers a two euro coin for every negative comment in the first round of testing, we never followed through though.
While I know he is right, and I need to be search out the negative feedback…
I’ve been dragging my feet.
It isn’t easy receiving this type of feedback, my ego steps in subconsciously and makes me defensive.
The amount of times I felt like this project was finished or doomed once I got a single piece of criticism is funny now, looking back. And I’ll probably do it again.
Josh Waitzkin calls this “Investing in Loss”.
He describes how the “great ones are willing to get burned time and again as they sharpen their swords on the fire”
The perfect example of this is Michael Jordan missing all those last minute shots to lose the game. You know this example already or at least you should do.
